Ruby Lott-Lavigna is a senior journalist with nine years of experience covering news and cultural stories for UK and international outlets, including five years as a senior staff writer at VICE UK.

I have built a reputation for sharp, timely reporting that blends rigour with creativity, covering everything from food culture to geopolitics.

For five years, I was a senior reporter at VICE UK, covering both domestic and international news. I reported on everything from a housing scam in London to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, combining fast-paced news instincts with in-depth editorial features. Alongside news coverage, I contributed extensively to VICE’s food vertical, Munchies, and wrote widely on renters’ rights.

After VICE, I worked as the political correspondent for openDemocracy, holding the organisation’s only lobby pass and reporting from Westminster. I broke the scoop that the Cabinet Office had refused to hand over Boris Johnson’s complete messages and diaries, a tale that went on to lead the UK news cycle for days. I was named one of the top Women in Westminster by the House Magazine in 2024.

I currently work on investigations and strategic communications at the NGO Global Witness, focusing on political lobbying stories, environmental news and human rights work.

I regularly appear on TV and radio to discuss my work, including as a frequent guest on Adrian Chiles’ and Naga Munchetty’s BBC Radio 5 Live programmes. I have also featured on LBC, Al Jazeera, Newsnight, TalkTV, and Times Radio.

Alongside journalism work, I have also provided TV research and consultancy work for Channel 4 and the Museum of Homelessness, hosted a podcast series with the University of Bristol, and chaired events with the Stuart Hall Foundation and the Social Market Foundation.
